There has been a massive increase in traffic to the site today. I’m not entirely sure what motivated this, but needless to say some new problems have yet again been exposed. There is some inflation occurring and some new users are posting objectionable content. We’ll sort through all this as the day unfolds.

UPDATE: I want to say welcome to all the new users flooding the site today. I appreciate all the enthusiasm about thotmarket, and want to thank you for exposing various weaknesses in the system. The purpose of this public beta period is to weed out all these little details. Some of the trouble we’ve seen today is all part of the growing process and will ultimately ensure that the site works well. Please continue to send feedback about your experiences. I probably wont respond personally, but I AM reading everything coming in.

I’ll have a more detailed update later today.

I’m excited to announce that there will be some new features coming to ThotMarket. In addition to some navigation improvements, we’ll be adding some community building features. For example, each user will soon have a profile page that details information about their offerings, lists, portfolio and comments. I’m still debating about whether to display Thollar data (like a user’s net worth) by default, or make that an opt-in item. If you have thought on this LET ME KNOW! There will probably be fields added that allow users to create a written profile and do things like select an avatar. Other features will be encouraging more communication between users.

Be aware that a new tax has been implemented. A windfall tax will now be imposed on very large bank balances on a weekly basis. This only applies to balances in excess of $1000 (thollars) and is progressive (meaning that the rate increases for larger balances). This is intended to bring the community a little closer to parity without resorting to manual corrections, which pisses everyone off (including me). This way, our high rollers can avoid the tax, if they want to, since assets that are invested are not subject to the windfall tax. Hopefully this will encourage our budding Gordon Geckos to spread it around. As with everything, this may change as conditions warrant.

Of the requested features that users submit, the most often requested one has been a more complete transaction history. Previously we’ve just been able to see the last 20 transactions. I just added a more complete history (see the link on the Account Management page) that gives you access to the last week, month or quarter. Eventually this page will allow you to sort your transactions by type.
